So far, one of the most badass Damian moments that isn't talked very much have to be this:
Damian getting hit with an arrow, ripping the arrow out of his shoulder without even a flinch, stealing the bow that hit him when the Arkham Knight (Astrid Arkham) cut the shooter's hands off, not bothering to remove the cut hand off the bow, threatening the criminals by aiming at them but in the end opting to throw the bow away, because he wanted to hurt them with the same arrow that shot through him.
Yeah, I had a stroke writing this if you can't tell.
Anyways, good times...

[ Image: A drawing of Astrid Arkham/the Arkham Knight, sitting on a surface with one ankle brought over one of her knees and one arm laid across her hip. She has a red undershirt on, with a black high-necked t-shirt with a white 'A' on her sleeve and jeans with a sun painted on one leg in red. She is wearing one pointy pauldron from her armor, the strap crossing her chest, and one gauntlet. Her hair is put up in short pigtails high on her head with one blue scrunchie and one red scrunchie, and her sword is in the ground behind her. She has red socks on and brown dress shoes. The shadow under her is gold. ]
I've had this kinda sitting around for a while and only recently finished it

Batman writers are so fucking pathetic like imagine seeing people rightly criticise an 80 year old mythos for its many ingrained issues and going "not only am I going to write you off, I'm going to write you in to my comic to make fun of you" "Look at these caricatures I made up to mock critiques of ableism" dude shut the fuck up.

Rewrite of Arkham Knight's (comic) Origin Story
So you know how the Arkham Knight in the comics is Jeremiah Arkham's daughter? And you know how complete dogshit her origin story is? Here's my version:
After the death of Jeremiah's wife, he kept his daughter in the lowest levels of Arkham Asylum out of fear for her safety. However, he was very neglectful towards his only child, having orderlies tend to her needs and otherwise leaving her alone for long periods of time.
As Astrid got older, she became curious about the upper levels of the asylum and the outside world and started sneaking out to explore. She met various patients and workers, and learned how they came to be there. Eventually she came across the members of the Rogues Gallery. And the Rogues, for reasons that varied from one to another, took the child under their wing. Not all of them - some tried to harm the child for her connection to her father, but the others managed to protect her. The biggest surprise was the Joker - it was no secret that her father utterly despised him, and he didn't exactly have any scruples about harming children. But when asked, he would just smile and laugh, like he just heard the funniest joke. Through the Rogues, she learned many things about the world - or at least, their perspective of it. And most important, she learned about Batman. The Dark Knight. Gotham's City's masked hero and guardian. Some spoke of him with hatred and vitriol, others with fevered obsession, and some with wistfulness, dare I say, fondness. Her father, though? To him, Batman may as well have been the devil incarnate. Apparently, he blamed the Caped Crusader for the death of her mother and, well, pretty much everything else wrong with Gotham. When Astrid tried to probe further, in one of the few conversations she managed to engage him in, he sternly told her to drop it.
Now, the thing is, Astrid, sheltered as she was, was not stupid. Far from it. She was her father's daughter, after all. And after years of being raised and taught by some of the greatest manipulators and masterminds in Gotham, she had learned how to tell when someone was lying, or at least not telling the whole truth.
She went snooping around and eventually came across a series security tapes of the day her mother died. Her heavily pregnant mother, who was in the cafeteria in the middle of a riot, and who she witnessed be violently assaulted by an inmate before going into labor on the floor. As her mother was carried to the nurse's office by orderlies, Astrid scanned the footage for any sign of the Batman and... she found none. He had not been in the cafeteria that day. Nor in the nurse's office, where her mother gave birth to a tiny, pale Astrid, before dying with her baby in her arms. In fact, as far as she could see, he had not been at Arkham at all. With this in mind, she concluded that her father had lied... either to her or himself.
And as for the Batman himself? Well she wouldn't meet him in person until years later, as a young adult. She did, however, come across Robin who, thinking she was a visiting relative of a patient, greeted her civilly. Before he could leave, she asked, curious. "Hey. Why do you...do what you do?"
Robin could have said anything to that. "Because it's the right thing to do." "Because no one else will." Instead, he merely shrugged and said, "Just trying to make Gotham a little better than I found it." And then he turned and left.
That...resonated with Astrid. She thought about those words later in her room. Batman and Robin must live in Gotham, right? It's their home. So of course they would want their home to be livable, to be safe. For Astrid, Arkham Asylum was a prison. A gilded cage, but a cage nonetheless. But even so, it was her home, the only home she had ever known. Did she not deserve to have her home as safe and comfortable as possible? She thought of the patients, of their pain and suffering, both external and internal, of the conditions they were being kept in. She thought of the guards and orderlies, who dealt with so much disrespect and vitriol, from the patients and higher-ups and each other with so little pay. She thought of the doctors, who had all but given up on actually treating their patients from lack of funds, proper equipment and just overall help, and were just trying to earn a paycheck and make sure they live another day. She thought of her father, who surely must know that all of this was going on... and was just letting it all happen.
She thought of the Rogues, this group of men and women who raised her and treated her as one of their own. The closest thing to family she ever had. Oh, they weren't saints. Astrid knew that they had all done terrible things, unforgivable things. But she loved them all the same. And Arkham was their home too, was it not? Did they not deserve to be safe and comfortable in their own home? Did they not deserve better?
... Yes, Astrid decided. They did deserve better. She deserved better. And if her father, or Batman, or the city wasn't going to give them what they deserved, then she would. No matter how long it took, no matter what she had to do, she would become Arkham's Knight. She would become a guardian of the asylum and all within and do everything she could to make Arkham the shining castle it was meant to be, the utopia her people deserved.
#astrid arkham#arkham knight#origin story rewrite#essentially astrid didn't become arkham knight out of revenge#but rather out of gratitude to the people who raised her and to make arkham asylum better than the shithole it currently is#unfortunately astrid's still cuckoo for coco puffs so her methods of doing so are... not the best#hattafan2593#batman#rogues gallery#jeremiah arkham#arkham asylum

Summary: Astrid Arkham makes plans to kill Batman, forms a cult, and furthers the twisted legacy inherent to her bloodline. Not that she’s aware of the last part.
If Warren White cared enough he’d call it ironic, or maybe just stupidly grim. As it is, he mostly just wishes the Arkham Knight would stop feeding his closest associate the metaphorical kool-aid.
Characters: Warren White, Humphry Dumpler, Astrid Arkham, Jeremiah Arkham
Relationships: Warren White & Humphry Dumpler
Additional Tags: cults, brief description of human branding, institutional abuse, incompetent doctors, morally gray characters, bittersweet ending, unrealistic depictions of mental illness/hospitals, because it’s Batman (duh), friendship, minor hurt/comfort

My second ever publicly posted fanfic, partly inspired by Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Detective Comics #1000- #1002 (2019), but mostly by the-ventriloquizt (AKA helloemptyset) who happens to love the same obscure Batman characters as me. I recommend checking out their *adorable* fanart. Link below

Does Talia still have a relationship with Damian? Does she have a relationship with Batman?
in BronzeRealms, Polyamory is common among superheroes in the 21st century. Batman/Clark/Diana/Lois is a full quad. He's also married to Selina.
He's not with Talia, though. They're not enemies, but not involved. The League of Assassins, now led by Talia, is mildly reformed. Still a League of Assassins, tho. Just no longer trying to actively topple civilizations, and slightly more principled about what jobs they'll take. Talia can visit with Damian, if Damian wants her to, and for his sake the Fam will refrain from trying to capture her for her many, many (some still ongoing) international crimes. But she's not exactly sitting down for most family meals.
I will now tell big parts of the story of how things got like this.
Turning back the clock to 2006, Batman has been Batman-ing for over 3 years, but he is not known as a great fighter. He's got some passable martial arts, enough to outmatch nearly any street crooks, but primarily at this point he is the World's Greatest Detective, with some wonderful toys and a stealthy spooky cape. Dick and Barbara could either one kick his ass out of costume.
Bane comes to Gotham. He has no civilian identity to detective out, can see in the dark well enough that his stealth is useless, and isn't scared of bats. Bane arranges for Batman to be isolated from his allies and cracks his spine over his knee. Most of Gotham assumes Batman is dead. His cousin Kate takes up the mantle as Batwoman (after the short and disastrous tenure of Jean-Paul Valley). But Bats himself isn't ready to call it quits. He leaves Gotham, not telling anyone, even Dick, where he's going.
He's going to find the League of Assassins. He only heard rumors about them in his original world journeys preparing to become Batman, but now, he finally meets them. He asks to be taken in and have his back healed, and they do. He sticks to his word and stays with them, and begins his training. Talia falls in love with him, and they get together.
But this is still the League of Assassins under Ra's al Ghul, and Gotham is a target on their map. I won't say that Batman never loved Talia back, but if it's a choice between her and Gotham? It was only a matter of time. A year and change after he found them (and having become one of the more formidable martial artists on the planet), he leaves.
And here's the thing. He suspected. He knew that the League of Assassins wanted their heir. He knew Talia wasn't on any kind of birth control. He saw what might be early-months signs. But if he KNEW, he wouldn't have been able to abandon her and return to Gotham. And he needed to return to Gotham. He had a mission, and already had a family. He couldn't afford to know, so he convinced himself that he didn't, buried his guilt, and he got on the next boat.
Skipping through some stuff I'll give more details on in different posts, 2008 he takes in Jason Todd. In 2012 Jason Todd is murdered by The Joker, then his corpse is taken by the League of Assassins. 2016, Batman fights the Red Hood, finds out he's Jason resurrected by the Lazarus Pit. Jason wins the fight, but can't kill him.
The next year, 2017, Red Hood tells young Damian, Talia's son, that he knows who his father is. He brings Damian to Gotham. Damian is surprised that his father is the Batman, the legendary protector of Gotham, the very city that his grandfather has been trying to destroy for Damian's entire life. Talia comes for him, but Damian decides he wants to stay and get to know his father and the city. Against her father's wishes, Talia agrees to let him stay, and he becomes Robin and takes the full name Damian Wayne.
Ra's doesn't stand by this, and he partners with Scarecrow and Astrid Arkham, providing them with a private army, thousands of soldiers, tanks, drones, advanced technology, some of which is Batman's own gadgetry stolen by Red Hood when he was still working for them. Late 2017 the League of Assassins wages all-out-war against Gotham and a full scale military occupation. Scarecrow fits people with Fear Toxin collars to enforce his own law, with the Arkham Knight as the enigmatic enforcer of his Fear State.
(Tangent): During the fight, two of the Arkham Knight's soldiers are accidentally killed in a battle against Batman. He discovers the two had brought their son, Turner Hayes, to Gotham with them. Turner had never known that his parents were mercenaries. Batman decides to cover up the circumstances of their deaths so that Turner never has to know, and as Bruce Wayne he adopts the boy, but continues to keep him in the dark about his own identity as Batman, or all the rest of the family's hero lives. He honors Turner's parents, the first people he considers himself to have murdered (even if accidental), by protecting Turner from the world of heroes and villains altogether, just as they had, giving him the normal life that tragedy robbed Bruce himself of. (End Tangent)
Early 2018 sees the end of the Fear State, and proves the final defeat of the League of Assassins' campaign against Gotham. After his repeated failures, Talia ousts Ra's from power. He flees, along with a splinter faction of loyalists, becoming the League of Shadows based out of Infinity Island, and Talia begins instituting reforms, inspired by her son having chosen Batman's methods over the ones he was raised in.
And while Batman respects her readiness to improve the organization... she is still literally the Queen of Assassins and the last time he killed someone he adopted a kid out of guilt so no they're not getting back together.
And I think that gets us basically up to speed on why things with Talia are strained, but not hostile (mostly for Damian's sake tbf).
#BronzeRealms#damian wayne#league of assassins#turner hayes#Gotham Knights is a terrible show Do Not Watch it but I'll rescue Turner from his origins#dc comics#dc universe#arkham knight#red hood#jason todd#league of shadows#talia al ghul#talia and damian#ra's al ghul#knightfall#under the red hood#bane#fear state#son of the demon#dc robin#batfamily#gotham#batfam#gotham city#left out Kate tracking down Batman while he's training and chewing him out for not telling anyone where he was going#and Ryan Wilder becoming Batwoman while Kate is looking for him#look if I didn't leave a lot of things out I would die before I finish any of these posts I'll get to it eventually
